Chappell Roan Approaches Fashion Like Art, Will She Do So at the 2026 Met Gala?

Chappell Roan may have only made her Met Gala debut last year, but “your favorite artist’s favorite artist” is already making a distinct impression. While styling for fashion’s biggest night might be a daunting task for other novices, Roan confidently took an unconventional route. The result? A perfectly gorgeous and 100% original fuchsia creation.

For the evening’s dress code, “Made for You,” the singer brought in Oscar-winning costume designer Paul Tazewell. (You may recognize his recent work evil Movie. ) Tazewell worked with Roan’s longtime stylist Genesis Webb to source vintage materials directly from eBay. “I wanted to convey that same ethos through the language of blackness – drawing on the bold styles of 1970s blaxploitation, funk and disco icons like Parliament-Funkadelic and Sylvester, who used fashion as a cultural force,” Tazewell said in a post on Instagram.

Tazewell and Webber paired a shimmering patchwork jumpsuit with a striking matching coat, trimmed with fuchsia fringe. To complete the look, Roan collaborated for the first time with fashion industry’s preeminent makeup artist Pat McGrath. “We channeled the glamor and freedom of the disco era – think Sylvester, Super flyrefined tailoring and unapologetic shine,” McGrath told Vogue.

Roan has never shied away from a quirky look when the occasion calls for it, whether it’s her Statue of Liberty look at the 2024 Governors Ball, her “Roan of Arc” armor at the 2024 VMAs, or her black swan/white swan moment in Gunnar Deatherage on Jimmy Fallon. Nothing is too bold or campy. Think back, if you will, to when she “bared” all prosthetics in an archival-inspired Mugler nipple-pierced dress at the 2026 Grammy Awards, or when she wore Mariano Cortez’s latex sex doll outfit RuPaul’s Drag Race.
