Margo’s turn to sex work—both as a source of survival and as a creative outlet (on OnlyFans, she adopts an alien persona called Hungry Ghost)—also intrigues Fanning. To conduct her research, she spent time on OnlyFans learning more about the site’s vast array of content creators. “It has a real scope,” she said. “I think at first you think of this real extreme, but there are also girls who just cook or step on butter.” For Margo, joining the site isn’t a shame, it’s a strength. “That’s why I was drawn to the material,” Fanning explains. “It’s about Margo finding her agency and even how her relationship with her body changes through motherhood and OnlyFans.”
although MargotMature content allowed Fanning to grow as an actor, but it was her off-screen work that truly laid the foundation for her future. “I really got my hands dirty,” Fanning said. “I think this is the perfect next step for me.”
Fanning’s life on set has taught her how to manage a production. “That’s something I learned from Sofia Coppola,” she said. “She’s a very loyal person who works with friends. That’s something I take into consideration – trying to be loyal, working with a team that understands you and creating something exciting.”
Is it Fanning’s team? Sadie, a friend from her childhood ballet class, choreographs TikTok dances, and Laura Gary is a studio teacher. “She taught me throughout high school,” Fanning said, so when it came time to find a studio teacher to take care of the baby MargotFanning immediately thought of Gary. “I think it was a mind-meld for her. She was like, ‘I taught you as a kid and now you play mom,'” Fanning said with a laugh. “Keep everything at home!”
