If you thought Hollywood’s red carpets would be diminished for the summer, think again. Star-studded premieres and lavish parties are in full swing this week—and the best-dressed stars are donning effortless, effortless summer looks for the occasions. Over the past seven days, a healthy mix of new designers and throwback nostalgia has been repeated on stage, proving that popular styles from 1996 can evoke as much modernity as 2026’s newer looks.
Greta Lee is at toy story 5 Premiered in London. The actor (with new bangs!) wore a custom red couture athletic dress with star embellishments. A stylish halterneck shift dress is both classic and fun. The same goes for Jennifer Lopez in her classic Atelier Versace gown, which she wore to office romance Los Angeles premiere; laser cuts and crystal embellishments added a touch of irreverence to her otherwise timeless ballgown.
Other shining retro moments? Ellie Bamber spotted a red, yellow and black shift dress in Calvin Klein’s Fall 1997 collection, the American designer’s signature line that was worn by Bamber’s character, Kate Moss. Mauss and Freud. Sydney Sweeney and her boyfriend Scooter Braun appeared in New York wearing a black Chanel dress from Fall 2003. The question is: Are their stylists interpreting these one-of-a-kind vintage pieces? Or that Hollywood’s finest all have secret eBay accounts where they can bid on such glamour? Either way, they make digging into the past look really trendy in the present tense.
