Kate Middleton Wears Queen Elizabeth’s Jewelry on the Late Monarch’s 100th Birthday

Today, to mark the birthday of the late Queen Elizabeth II – the monarch who died in 2022 would have turned 100 on April 21 – Buckingham Palace hosted a special reception.

Kate Middleton, Princess of Wales, always wants to make her fashion choices meaningful, and she chose a special piece of jewelry for the occasion: a three-strand pearl necklace that once belonged to her royal grandmother.

Although Queen Elizabeth II owned many three-strand pearl necklaces, this particular style (a timeless design) is believed to be the same necklace seen in the last portrait of Queen Elizabeth II taken by Ranald Mackechnie. according to gossiperMiddleton had previously worn the necklace, just days after the death of Queen Elizabeth II.

The necklace wasn’t the only piece of sentimental jewelry the Princess of Wales wore on Tuesday, either. Middleton also wore a pair of Bahraini pearl earrings that once belonged to Queen Elizabeth; they were a gift from Hakim of Bahrain on her wedding day in 1947. Elizabeth has worn them at numerous royal events and appearances over the years.

Middleton wore two family heirlooms with a lavender three-quarter-sleeved dress by Emilia Wickstead (one of her most worn brands, the other probably being Catherine Walker). She further accessorized the elegant look with classic Ralph Lauren pumps.

Also attending the 100th birthday celebrations were members of the royal family including King Charles, Queen Camilla, Princess Anne and Prince Edward. The Prince and Princess of Wales posted a special social media tribute to Queen Elizabeth II today, sharing a selection of photos of the late monarch with the caption: “Commemorating 100 years since the birth of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. Inspiring generations through a life of responsibility.”
