Vogue Staffers Predict the Summer Trends You’ll Be Seeing Everywhere

Summer is just around the corner and with it comes tank tops, shorts and sandals. Oh, and linen—so much linen. “Spring linens? Groundbreaking,” you might be saying to yourself. This is… fair! Don’t worry, here Fashion, We have more ideas on what we might see this season. Whether on the street, in a cafe, at a backyard barbecue, or for all other summer occasions. The edge of surprise? Why, yes. A fiery explosion of fluorescent light? Believe it. Maybe a football jersey or two? Check. A high-heeled renaissance? why not?

Not to brag, but we’ve spent so much time browsing the catwalks and browsing the annals of internet history that we think we’ve got some solid premonitions of what this season might hold, sartorially speaking. After all, summer trends are already a hot topic around the office as the winter chill finally gets a little cuter.

So we polled the office to give our biggest, boldest, and most outrageous predictions for the coming months. Without further ado, here’s a list of more unexpected summer trends we think you’ll see between now and Labor Day.

I think we’ll continue to see a lot of flip-flops this year, following last year’s sandal craze. While last year’s designs were sleek, slim, elegant, and dignified, I think we’ll see designers gravitate toward more personalized iterations. Strange, even, maybe a little weird. We’ve already brought you the Isabel Marant x Havaianas collaboration, which features a chunky cabochon thong, while Alaïa crafted a pointy footbed with soft, plush silk-blend straps. Louboutin has studs, and Balenciaga has versions using the hardware found in its popular Cagole bag.

Bold dressers will no doubt be wondering how to add more personality to this streamlined shoe. Expect to see a lot of weird things happening below the ankles. —Max Berlinger, senior fashion news editor
