Bangkok – Yutthana NakruangsriThe Deputy Commissioner and Spokesperson for the Department of Correctional Services confirmed the Department of Corrections’ timetable Thaksin ShinawatraAfter serving a year in prison for corruption, he was eligible for parole. Thaksin is currently being held at Klong Prem Central Prison and will be paroled on May 9, 2026 after serving eight months in prison.
Yutthana said Klong Prem Prison has not yet finalized the list of parole-eligible inmates as the corrections department requires names to be submitted 1-2 months in advance. Thaksin’s eligibility follows the criterion of serving two-thirds of his sentence.
Although he will be released on Saturday 9 May, officials are obliged to ensure that the prisoner’s rights are upheld and the release process begins between 07:00 and 08:00 in the morning. Thaksin will then be transferred to a location designated by his sponsor for parole supervision.
Yutthana further said that because Thaksin’s sentence is shorter, Thaksin will not be required to wear an electronic monitoring bracelet (EM). However, he is required to report to the parole department according to a prescribed schedule. Once he is satisfied that he has served his sentence, he will receive a certificate of acquittal from the prison.
