Shortlisted for last year’s global women’s open call, Shannon Cavalocchi is a photographer from Oahu, Hawaii, now living in Australia. Her work explores human emotions and connections with nature, reflecting on her personal experiences. For Cavalocchi, photography is a way to understand her story and interpret reality, as well as build community with others. Her project Siren Song explores healing as a process that occurs through collective interaction rather than a solitary journey.

While working with medium format film, the artist spent a lot of time with her subjects, interacting with them and building real relationships – an important element in creating her intimate and delicate portraits. In Cavalocchi’s practice, women are seen as expressions of nature, and landscape plays a role in healing trauma and reflecting the cyclical rhythms of regeneration.
