The holiday season is a bit of a blur for designers, who are tasked with offering pieces from tropical vacation pieces to holiday parties and everything in between. But Andrea Lieberman isn’t just about occasion dressing. “It just seemed right for us, both commercially and as a client, to lean into wardrobe,” she said. “This collection isn’t really eye-catching for this time of year, but is really built around pieces that can take you through the holiday season and the rest of your life.”
For Lieberman, the platonic ideal of occasion wear is the suit, and ALC’s latest offering is full of menswear inspiration. After the burgundy evening dress is buttoned, nothing should be worn underneath to increase the sexy feel. Elsewhere, she wore a tuxedo jacket and winter coat, which Lieberman stressed was “really disgusting.” Still, while Lieberman is her own best client, her designs extend beyond her own interests. Opt for a white maxi dress with a deep V-neck, a pleated waist and open draped sleeves. “For me, it’s one of those clothes where I’m like, ‘Oh, don’t worry. I’ll always have something to wear because I have it in my closet,'” she said.
Don’t worry: There’s plenty of casual pieces here too—slouchy jeans, lace-trimmed knitted tank tops—but Lieberman is particularly excited about her line of Milano knitted hoodies. “It gives you a very sporty feel, but in a very elevated way,” she said. “Instead of feeling like you’re wearing a kid’s sweatshirt, you feel like you’re wearing something sophisticated.” Whether it’s a party-ready tuxedo or an everyday hoodie, sophistication is always the North Star.
