Mari Fonseca Wore Schiaparelli to Marry Drew Taggart at a Classic Beach Wedding in Costa Rica

To accessorize, the bride paired the gown with a custom veil and shoes from the brand. “Badra Amar from the Schiaparelli team really helped me realize my personal ideas,” says Mari. Her only piece of jewelry was a “borrowed item” – a pair of diamond earrings from her bridesmaid Danielle Pontes.

The bride wore a sheer lace gown by Aadnevik for her first ball before changing into a second version of her Schiaparelli gown. “I’ve worked with them many times in the past and walked in their shows,” says Mari. “I know their clothes fit and I can move around in them.”

For the groom’s wedding day outfit, he asked his friend David August to create a double-breasted suit with an exaggerated peak collar and pink lining. “As with other details of the wedding, Drew aimed for a classic look that reflected his personality more than the wedding’s surroundings,” Mari explains. “David takes care of every detail from cufflinks to shoes to custom shirts.” Later in the evening, Drew changes into a champagne dinner jacket to match the bride’s Schiaparelli minidress.

On the wedding day, guests gathered on the beach and the beautiful white flowers created a dreamy atmosphere. Songs such as “Take MeWhere Your Heart Is” by Q, “The Dress” by Dijon and “Bloom” by The Paper Kites provided the soundtrack for the ceremony. “The music that was playing was songs from the night we fell in love in New York years ago,” Drew shared. The bride remembers being filled with nerves before the big moment, but that all disappeared when she walked down the aisle with her father. “I imagined the ceremony many times while planning it, and I tried to control my emotions so that I could fully enjoy every moment and complete all of my vows without crying,” she recalled. The groom said he actually felt completely at peace that week. “That day was no different. I felt like I was doing what I was supposed to do,” he said. “With all my favorite people in front of me and a perfect sunset behind me, I gazed upon the most beautiful bride I could ever imagine.”

After saying “I do,” guests went to watch the sunset and listen to live Bossa Nova music during cocktail hour while the couple were alone for portraits with photographer Emilie White. “Drew wanted to see me in my dress for the first time at the wedding,” the bride said. After the sun goes down, the newlyweds rejoin their guests under the lights of the reception room for their first dance. “One of the highlights of the evening was a home video Mari made about her and I growing up in different parts of the world, which led us to where we met and beyond,” Drew shared. “It’s normal in Brazilian culture, but it was new for me, and it ended up being welcomed by our family and friends.” After another change of clothes, dinner began, and the evening continued with speeches from the couple’s parents and best friends.

A few hours later, the wedding went into party mode with everyone dancing on the beach to Sound House music. “They played a classic wedding playlist and added some spicy advice from Mari and me, and the songs flowed together seamlessly and delivered the energy perfectly. Everyone was in awe,” Drew shared. “They were highlights that were probably more memorable than the sunset.” The partying didn’t stop, with the couple’s villa being transformed into a “summer friends after-get off work club.” DJ Ruckus, a friend of the couple, kept the music going late into the night.

Both newlyweds said they remain extremely grateful to the team who executed the event and the friends and family who came to celebrate with them. In the words of the groom: “I wouldn’t change a single detail of that day.”
