When comedian Jack Whitehall proposed to his model girlfriend of four years, Roxy Horner, there was an unexpected witness: the couple’s young daughter, Elsie. “I organized a trip to Estelle Hall, just the two of us, but we messed up the childcare and had no kids,” Jack recalls. “We got there pretty late, so I said I just wanted to go to bed and get room service,” Roxy said with a laugh. Jack persisted and the couple eventually made their way to dinner – joined by Elsie, who eventually fell asleep after her father took her pram around the hotel grounds a few times. “It’s so beautiful with the Christmas trees all over the room,” Roxy said. There, with their daughter threatening to stir (“We saw her feet twitching!”), Jack popped the question.
Roxy, 34, had grown up loving Disney movies and anything with a “happily ever after” storyline, and knew she wanted a fairytale English countryside wedding. She spoke with a planner, Studio White Events, who immediately understood her vision. “They showed me a few venues and Urich House in Wiltshire was one of them – it was perfect,” she said. “That was a year ago, and on a beautiful day like today, I love how wisteria is everywhere.” In fact, the wisteria did a lot of the legwork on the day—although the couple did hire Wild About Flowers to add some white blooms to make everything feel more “wedding.”
In contrast, when Roxy started looking for a wedding dress, she wasn’t sure what she wanted. “I’ve photographed a lot of wedding brands in my life, but I never focused too much on what I liked,” she explains. “When I went to try on dresses for my wedding, I ended up choosing the first one I tried on. Well, two…” The bride-to-be fell in love with two beautiful Galia Lahav gowns and ultimately decided to buy both — saving one for the party — as well as a veil.
For accessories, Roxy chose Alaïa’s Le Coeur pumps and changed into another pair of Freya Rose pumps for the reception. “I also wore them to my farewell brunch the next day and they were so comfortable,” she shared. The couple’s wedding rings came from Brilliant Earth, and Roxy also wore a diamond necklace, earrings, bracelets and rings from Rox Jewellery. “I’m still wearing the engagement ring that was passed down to me when my grandmother passed away, which is very special,” she revealed. To express her “something borrowed,” she wore a bell on the bouquet—a family tradition that goes back hundreds of years. “I also had a little blue ribbon on my garter, but it fell off!”
This wasn’t the only wardrobe malfunction. Groom Jack, 37, started the day in a Tom Ford suit but Dunhill forced him to change into a spare suit. “I knelt down and picked up Elsie, and my pants ripped open and my whole ass was hanging out,” he deadpanned. Elsie was one of three flower girls at the ceremony and she wore a white dress, becoming a mini version of her mom. “When she got to the end of the aisle, it was so sweet,” Roxy said. “I just heard her yell, ‘Daddy, daddy!'”
