Clear your calendar and a little closet space: Saturday, March 28, sees the return of the annual Vogue Vintage Market, a one-day shopping event that celebrates the glamor of fashion and homewares from the past, hosted by Doja Cat for our second annual event.
If anyone understands the transformative power of vintage, it’s Doja, who is as adept at drawing inspiration from the archives of couture as she is at embracing the avant-garde. (We’re still obsessed with her look at last year’s Oscars, in which she shimmered in a leopard-print gown inspired by a 1953 Pierre Balmain design and reimagined by Olivier Rousteing.) In other words: She’s the perfect leader in a market for fashion pieces dedicated to storytelling.
We’ll have racks and racks of editorially worthy vintage and archival finds sourced from eBay, curated by Amy Astley, Emma Chamberlain, Paloma Elsesser and Liana Satenstein, vintage aficionados familiar with their search bars and runway archives, as well as additional pieces sourced directly from the designers’ archives and curated teams. Fashion Friends, and a selection of menswear pieces curated by the editorial team Case Q.
A quick preview: Elsesser unearthed a Prada treasure trove that included a fairy shirt from the brand’s spring 2008 collection, a transparent relic etched in the fashion consciousness of millennials who grew up watching runway slides. She also debuted some rare Tom Ford-era Yves Saint Laurent Fall 2004 Chinoiserie pumps—lotus-embroidered “Opium” pumps—showing how Ford’s magic extends beyond Gucci.
Speaking of: Satenstein fully embraced her Ford obsession, choosing slinky, high-octane pieces from his tenure at Gucci, as well as Versace Jeans gems that harkened back to the heyday of the designer’s diffusion lines, when logos were loud and fanciful price points were democratized.
Because vintage isn’t just limited to wardrobes; architectural digest Amy Astley has curated a collection of avant-garde designed finds and legendary objects to bring the same joy of discovery into your home.
Vogue vintage market will be Fashion Subscribe today and it will be open to the public on Tuesday, March 3rd, by RSVP and Donate Fashion app. For those who can’t make it to the Roll & Hill showroom in SoHo, accompanying online curated content, filled with carefully selected gems found on eBay, is also available for purchase at Vogue.com.
