My experience with Fara Homidi Beauty The Essential Eye Compact
Homidi officially launched the Essential Eye Compact this weekend; we fashion lovers may have picked up on the hint: “I’ve been secretly launching last year’s eye formula on the runway,” she said of last season’s unreleased samples at Proenza Schouler, Gabriella Hearst and Erdem. The beauty requests for this season’s Eckhaus Latta Fall/Winter collection were a godsend: “I love that things work out because they really want an undone smoky eye,” Homidi tells me. “What this means for me is taking Norae’s darkest eyeshadow, lining up the rim of the eye, and then taking it off.”
Homidi’s signature technique of applying color first and then removing excess makeup, whether using a makeup remover on a Q-tip or a quick swipe of your finger, is one of our mutual interests. “I think the remnants that are left behind are always better than the actual intention because it feels like a lot of effort,” Homidi said.
No matter how you apply it, hopefully things will become more of a party girl, sleeping look. She emailed me some tips on what to expect for my winged eyeliner look using her palette. “When you pick up your thin brush, you’ll see softer winged lines and a smokier edge,” she explains. Before I met Homidi backstage, I briefly brushed my winged liner with Soft Lune – to welcome the compliments!
Next, I’m going to try a bright blue, inspired in part by a vivid dream she had about an Indian ring-necked parrot reflected on a crystal clear Japanese lake. “The dream was so delightful, the colors so vivid,” that she woke up with the inspiration for The Essential Eye Compact. This season, I welcome a little escapism!
