I no longer have control of my leg, says Malaysia ex-PM Mahathir Mohamad – Asia News Network

Petaling Jaya – After a fall in January 2026, Tun Dr Mahathir Mohamad said he no longer had control of his legs.

Recalling the day he was injured, the former prime minister said he was exercising at home in the mine.

“I lost control of my legs before I fell,” he said in a podcast clip on Instagram on Tuesday (April 14).

“This resulted in a broken hip and joint. I also suffered head injuries.

“It was very painful. It was very difficult for them (medical staff) to help ease my pain,” he said.

He added that it would take a few days for the pain to subside.

“Now three months later, it has recovered. I can stand now, but I have no control over my legs. It’s like I have no legs,” he said.

On January 6, Dr. Mahathir was admitted to the National Heart Institute in Kuala Lumpur after falling.

Doctors said surgery was not feasible due to his age and he would undergo physical therapy.

Dr. Mahathir will celebrate his 100th birthday on July 10, 2025.
