Some Bunny to Love: A Brief History of Fashion’s Fascination with Rabbits Ahead of Easter Weekend

It’s Easter weekend, which means we’ll be celebrating with an Easter egg hunt, a festive brunch, and if we’re lucky, a visit from the Easter Bunny. We are not the only ones with weaknesses. Rabbits are a favorite reference for designers of all kinds, whether it’s Marc Jacobs in the Louis Vuitton era, whose sexy fall 2009 headpiece was later worn by Madonna at the Met Gala, or Stella McCartney, who wore a dressy cotton-tail hippie on the fall 2020 runway.

2023 is the Year of the Rabbit, and references have multiplied, yes, from SS Daley in London to Ambush in Tokyo, it’s the rabbit. Model Hoyeon Jung has played the bunny twice, first in Jeremy Scott’s spring 2018 men’s show for Moschino and second in Schiaparelli’s fall 2018 haute couture show. And Marni’s suspiciously tall rabbit? That’s former creative director Francesco Risso himself. Here are the best bunnies on the track.
