“I love wearing color,” Lauren Rubinski said during our call, tugging gently at her pistachio green polo shirt (an original from Rubirosa), which she paired with cherry red pants.
Known for her chunky gold chain necklaces and playful signet rings, the fine jewelry designer has found a new form of expression at Rubirosa’s, an elegant neighborhood shirt shop in Paris’s historic 7th arrondissement. Although it’s a relatively new space, its Art Deco signage, dark wood paneling, wall-to-wall red velvet rugs and vintage haberdashery shelves make Rubirosa feel like it’s always been there — which was Rubinski’s original intention.
The space came together in less than a year, a passion project with no grand strategy and no website. Since opening on Rue de Grenelle last June, the boutique has attracted connoisseurs seeking out Rubinski’s refined neutral cotton shirts, vibrant cashmere knits and supple leather loafers. “It was a dream of mine to have something for myself,” Rubinski says of the store, which is both a physical representation of her taste and a reflection of how she organizes her wardrobe—rich in color, rich in texture, and beautifully detailed, it’s worth a closer look.
“I wear a shirt almost every day,” says Rubinski, who reflects on her style, which eschews trends in favor of classic pieces with a bit of flair, like a pink-piped pajama set paired with black crocodile loafers and an oversized leather jacket, or spray-painted men’s chinos paired with a distressed chore coat and durable suede boots. It’s no secret that her love for shirts is innate, passed down from her father and grandfather – both bespoke tailors who instilled in her a strict demand for quality and execution. But that doesn’t mean she’s picky: “I want to be confident and strong, but I don’t need my clothes to be perfect.”
Her uniform is grounded in utility, with finishing touches—from an heirloom belt gifted by her father to a rare Hermès Mini Plume suede top handle or an ultra-rare 1960s Patek Philippe Ricochet pocket watch worn as a black cord pendant—that match her collector’s mentality.
An entrepreneur and mother of two with a busy schedule, Rubinski is now focused on expanding Rubirosa’s products and physical footprint, with a second, larger space (750 square feet) set to open next door this June. Here, Rubinsky shares with you Fashion Her completely laissez-faire approach to dressing
earth tones
To keep her routine relaxed, Rubinski relies on a rotating selection of Ralph Lauren staples. “I buy a lot of Ralph Lauren men’s clothing,” she explains, including these distressed earth-toned workwear that she tailors to her body. She paired it with a light blue Rubirosa pajama top with white contrast piping and a smaller size than she usually wears for a cropped effect. A rare collectible – a 1960s Patek Philippe Ricochet pocket watch – hangs from a string and is worn as a pendant. Soft ballerinas from The Row set the stage for her look (“I rarely wear heels during the day,” she said), paired with a large buckled Ralph Lauren belt for a thoughtful contrast.
