Finding time to exercise in your busy life is a common logistical challenge. But we often fall short. What if there was a way to work out smarter instead of harder? Use a walking mat, a clever solution for transforming sedentary moments into daily movement.
“Walking is one of the most underrated forms of exercise,” says Holly Haywood, head trainer at Third Space Soho. “It offers a wide range of benefits, from improved cardiovascular health and circulation to joint-friendly exercise that improves mood, reduces stress, promotes fat loss and supports longevity. It’s suitable for just about everyone and can be easily adapted to different fitness levels, which is why it’s often recommended as a daily habit.”

Adults who walk for at least 15 minutes a day have a lower risk of mortality and cardiovascular disease than adults who walk for shorter periods of time, according to new research published in the Annals of Internal Medicine. Whatever the weather, a walking mat can make it easy.
On whether she thinks a walking mat is worth it, Haywood had this to say: “I’m a firm believer that anything that gets you moving is worth having. Whether it’s a walking mat, a treadmill, or whether you choose to exercise outdoors. Movement is movement. Treadmills can add incline and provide more speed play, but walking mats can be great for people with very busy schedules, as you can multitask while continuing to count steps and tasks at hand – without leaving the house.”
She said when it comes to optimal speed, it’s very personal. “When it comes to adding more walking into your life, I always try to base everything on effort. Try a harder effort (a brisk walk where the conversation becomes more challenging – usually around 4-6km/h) and an easy effort (where you can maintain and hold a conversation comfortably – usually around 2-4km/h).”
Space Saving and Flexible: One of the advantages of walking mats as fitness equipment is their space saving design. Many models are foldable and can be easily put away after training, and integrated transport wheels make the process even easier. Below, you can find the walking mat that best suits your needs, fitness preferences, and level.
