It’s not every day that we see Amal Clooney, but the human rights lawyer (and all-around fashion star) was out on the streets of New York yesterday. occasion? She stood by her husband George Clooney at the 51st Chaplin Awards at Lincoln Center in New York City. The actor was awarded the award for his contribution to cinema, but Amal’s red carpet look in the matter also deserves its own accolade.
Clooney usually favors vintage and classic designer clothes, but he wore a dress that was fresh off the runway. This magenta off-the-shoulder mini dress with a puffed top and train at the back is from Balenciaga designer Pierpaolo Piccioli’s Spring 2026 collection. This is definitely perfect for spring because of its bright colors and shortened hem. (After all, Amal usually favors glamorous, floor-length gowns.) For a more personal touch, Clooney accessorized the look with gold accessories, like a Begum Khan clutch and pointed-toe metallic pumps.

Her decision to wear such a striking spring runway piece was certainly a style change for Clooney, who usually digs out rare, one-of-a-kind pieces in the spotlight. While an elegant John Galliano slip dress has proven to be her most commonly worn red carpet gown, she’s also worn classic pieces from Alexander McQueen, Jean-Louis Scherrer and Stéphane Rolland. (Mon Vintage and Tab Vintage are two antique dealers from which she frequently purchases items.)
This latest moment in New York has us wondering: Will Clooney be in town for the 2026 Met Gala on Monday? She last attended the event in 2018, when she walked up the steps of the Metropolitan Museum of Art wearing a Richard Quinn bustier and train skirt, paired with trousers. Maybe we can expect to see her wearing a new Balenciaga this year…or maybe she’ll be leaning towards a new Chanel, since she like Vintage Chanel. Place your bets here!
