Hanoi – National Assembly Chairman Tran Thanh Man met on Monday with First Vice President of the Greek Parliament Plagiotakis, who is on an official visit to Vietnam from February 28 to March 5.
At the reception, Chairman Mann warmly welcomed Plakiotakis and the delegation of Greek parliamentarians, and said that this was a visit following the visit of Nguyen Duc Hai, Vice Chairman of the Vietnamese National Assembly, to Greece in October 2025. He emphasized that this visit is of great significance and reflects the strong interest of the Greek Parliament and people in strengthening the traditional friendship and multi-faceted cooperation between the two countries.
Chairman of the Supreme People’s Committee of Vietnam congratulated Greece on its remarkable achievements in economic and social development in recent years, stressing that Vietnam always attaches importance to and hopes to deepen friendship and multi-faceted cooperation with Greece. He emphasized that the two countries still have huge potential to strengthen cooperation in areas with complementary advantages such as maritime economy, shipping, logistics, renewable energy, digital transformation, green transformation and innovation.
In order to further promote relations between the two countries and cooperation between the two legislative bodies, Chairman Mann suggested that the two sides continue to enhance political mutual trust and expand all-round cooperation through exchanges of delegations at all levels and through various channels. He also called for sharing legislative and supervisory experience and strengthening coordination at multilateral parliamentary forums such as the Inter-Parliamentary Union and the Asia-Europe Parliamentary Partnership Meeting.
The President of the National Assembly recommended that the two sides strengthen the pillars of economic cooperation, especially in the fields of maritime affairs and agriculture. He suggested that the Greek Parliament support the remaining European countries in ratifying the EU-Vietnam Investment Protection Agreement (EVIPA) as soon as possible, and urged assistance in calling on the European Commission (EC) to lift the “yellow card” warning on Vietnam’s illegal, unreported and unregulated (IUU) fishing-related seafood exports.
Plakiotakis thanked Chairman Mann for the reception and said that Vietnam is a beautiful and dynamic country. He emphasized the two countries’ proud historical traditions and shared values of peace and independence, which contribute to the bond between the two peoples.
He confirmed Greece’s desire to advance bilateral cooperation through parliamentary and governmental channels and within the framework of the United Nations, noting Greece’s role as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. On this occasion, he conveyed the greetings and invitation from Greek Speaker Kakramanis to Chairman Mann to visit Greece.
Plagiotakis agreed with Vietnam’s assessment and agreed to promote exchanges between the two countries’ parliamentary committees and young parliamentarians, strengthen the bridging role of the parliamentary friendship group, and explore ways to strengthen economic cooperation in Greece’s advantageous fields such as construction, energy, and maritime services.
Both sides agreed to continue to coordinate closely and support each other in regional and international parliamentary forums, within the ASEAN-EU cooperation framework, and in global multilateral institutions. Both sides reiterated their support for multilateralism and respect for international law, emphasizing the importance of resolving disputes through peaceful and diplomatic means on the basis of international law and ensuring security and freedom of navigation in regional and international waters.
