Like every other gay guy with a Hulu account, I’m totally locked into the first three episodes love storyConnor Hines’ drama about JFK Jr. and Caroline Bassett, produced by Ryan Murphy. Stars Sarah Pidgeon and Paul Anthony Kelly do a weird justice to their larger-than-life characters that I couldn’t have imagined before watching the show. But there is a small but important detail love story This always bothers me: why on earth do we make Daryl Hannah so dirty?
I’ve watched enough TV shows (and written enough bad scripts, for that matter) to know that a show needs conflict to survive, and I don’t blame love story The writers tried to get along with Kennedy’s real-life on-again, off-again girlfriend. (Hannah was played by another great DH on the series, Dree Hemingway.) The resemblance is good enough, and I like the poetry of Kelly’s character being torn between the two iconic blondes – but did Hannah really need to be so, well, crazy, annoying, and actress-like on the show?
To be fair, Hannah and Kennedy’s roughly five-year relationship was a mess by all accounts. They were often tabloid fodder, and Kennedy first met Bassett at a party while he was still with Hannah. That is to say, love storyHannah is portrayed as a whiny, coke-addicted prima donna (who…somewhat equates the loss of her beloved pet dog to JFK losing his mother… exist Jackie Kennedy’s wake) doesn’t sound entirely right. In fact, if I were Hannah, I would consider suing.
Apparently, Hemingway wrote a love letter to Hannah before playing her love story. (No word yet on whether Hannah responded, or if she’s been tuning into the show to watch a fictional version of herself basically beg her ex to be with her.) But I feel like I’ll be buying the slow-burn cute encounter between CBK and JFK Jr., even if we No Hannah is quite the romantic villain. It’s Elle Driver, Ryan Murphy and more! Respect her good name!
