How to Wear Cobalt Blue—The Electric Hue You’re Seeing Everywhere

We’re reporting a case of the winter blues…but not a case of seasonal affective disorder that persists into spring. It’s cobalt blue, and like the snow in New York City, it’s everywhere.

It first gained recognition in 2025, and like most bold trends, it took a few quarters to settle into the zeitgeist and gain momentum. On the Spring 2026 runways, cobalt blue, also known as IKB, or colloquially known as Klein Blue (designed by artist Yves Klein) made a major statement—reflecting a broader shift toward expressive dressing. Saturated hues appear in color-blocked decor at Loewe, Jil Sander and Wales Bonner; then visit Tove, Chanel and Fforme for head-to-toe looks. At Lanvin, it’s not so much about sensationalism as it is about diving into the abyss. The runway itself is an endless expanse of blue.

Vogue’s favorite cobalt blue picks:

Vibrant, confident and surprisingly versatile, this eye-catching hue does more than just give a sartorial dopamine rush. It’s also a color chameleon, pairing well not only with neutrals but also with more unexpected hues like purple, red, pale pink and lemon yellow.

As far as color trends go, cobalt blue is vibrant without being overpowering, making it super wearable, whether you’re committing to a bold coat like Bella Hadid or mixing it up subtly like we’re seeing in street style right now.

With spring here, this hue is expected to lead the fashion conversation—here are some ways to wear it now.

as a skirt

Inspired by Auralee’s FW26 show, you don’t need to go entirely monochromatic blue to achieve a chic look. Pair a Nour Hammour leather jacket with a blue skirt and finish with a purple scarf – another key spring color trend.
