‘I Wear It on My Middle Finger’: Inside the Booming Market for Divorce Rings

Peering through the windows of Annoushka Ducas’s London boutique at night, you might see women gazing at diamonds and sipping champagne. But they gather not to peruse engagement rings or sell gifts, but to toast the signing of divorce papers and the prospect of turning the stones and settings (and emotional scars) of a wedding or engagement ring into a poignant new piece of jewelry. “It’s more fun than painful!” smiles Ducasse, who for three years has been hosting divorce ring parties at her boutique, bringing together London’s top divorce lawyers and their clients. “There were a lot of laughs and shots… it was really about bringing the community together.”

Ducasse is just one of many jewelers experiencing growing demand for divorce rings, driven in part by the larger pieces worn by A-list stars after they signed off on being single. Take Emily Ratajkowski, for example, who commemorated her divorce from her husband of two years, Sebastian Bear-McClard, in March 2024 with two 18-carat platinum rings designed by Alison Lou that incorporated the pear-shaped and princess-cut diamonds from her toi et moi engagement ring. “The idea of divorce is separation, so it’s always about breaking the ring into two separate but complementary rings,” Alison Chemla, founder of the brand, told us Fashion. What was the inspiration behind EmRata’s popular pinky design? Toe ring worn by Rihanna.

In January of this year, original powerhouse stylist and new Housewife Rachel Zoe separated from her husband of more than 20 years, Rodger Berman, and commemorated her change with a stunning three-diamond divorce ring designed by Ring Concierge featuring a huge cushion-cut diamond on her halo engagement ring. Elsewhere, celebrity dermatologist Barbara Sturm commissioned Jessica McCormack’s divorce ring before she split from husband Adam Waldman. “Once you make a decision, even if the paperwork isn’t done yet, you’ve made a decision,” she said. In October 2025, she posted the final piece — a chunky twisted gold ring with a pear-shaped diamond — on Instagram, citing EmRata as her inspiration.

Unsurprisingly, East London jeweler Rachel Boston, who has been commissioning divorce rings for the past four years, says she’s found her clients are clamoring for bespoke designs that look nothing like “bridal” in the traditional sense.

“Customers are gravitating toward pieces that feel more grounded and everyday, such as chunky bands, sculptural backdrops, and designs that can be worn as part of an everyday uniform,” she explains. “Signet rings and wide gold rings are popular.” Chelsea jeweler Jessie Thomas agrees. “We’re seeing a lot of chunky gold and white gold jewelry with heavy settings and large stones.” Tania and Dima Nawbar of Atelier Nawbar, a fourth-generation jeweler based in Beirut, note the same love for oversize. For a recent divorce ring commission, the center diamond and halo stones on wedding and engagement rings were transformed into a pebble-shaped cocktail ring with rimmed diamonds for sparkling sparkle.
