Today, Meghan Markle and Prince Harry celebrate their eighth wedding anniversary. The Duchess of Sussex shared a series of reportedly never-before-seen photos from her wedding to mark the special occasion. Meghan posted two posts on Instagram showing behind-the-scenes photos from the ceremony and reception (which included Elton John performing for guests), writing in the caption: “Eight years ago today…” She also shared photos of her story, set to the soundtrack of Paula Abdul’s song “Forever Your Girl.”
On May 19, 2018, the Duke and Duchess of Sussex were married at St. George’s Chapel in Windsor Castle. Their 600 guests included family and celebrity friends such as Victoria and David Beckham, Serena Williams, Oprah, George Clooney and Amal Clooney, among others. On the big day, watched by some 1.9 billion people around the world, the Duchess wore a strapless Givenchy wedding dress designed by then creative director Clare Waight Keller.
The designer previously revealed that she worked with Markle for months to create the dress in complete confidentiality. “It was very careful communication between us — just us, really. No one else was involved,” she said. The dress is thought to be inspired by Carolyn Bessette-Kennedy’s minimalist wedding dress from the ’90s, which the Duchess has said was her favorite celebrity wedding dress.
For the reception at Frogmore House, Markle changed into a silk crepe turtleneck gown by Stella McCartney.
