A-list stars took to the steps of New York’s Metropolitan Museum of Art tonight, and their dramatic looks gave fashion audiences plenty to talk about, not to mention delight. Unsurprisingly, the evening’s best-dressed (and most memorable) attendees mulled over the 2026 theme – “The Art of Costume,” which explores the centrality of the clothed body) and dress code – aptly titled “Fashion is Art.”
Many of this year’s winning costumes were intentionally designed, exploring similar themes that can be found in the Met’s new Costume Institute exhibition, which included plenty of garments that focused on silhouette and enhanced (or concealed) the shapes underneath. After all, the Met is more than just a night to dress up. Instead, it’s the perfect opportunity to tell a powerful story, not to mention subvert expectations.
