It’s the first Monday in May (as you may have heard) and spring is in full swing, not to mention the 2026 Met Gala. That means birds chirping, flowers blooming, and seasonal allergies. From a sartorial perspective, this of course means the Met Gala. Of course, we think people will embrace seasonal tropes: wear florals (a groundbreaking yadda yadda), light tones, breathable fabrics, and maybe even a little bare skin.
So imagine our surprise when the men of the 2026 Met Gala were loud about warm-weather leather on the red carpet. A bulky fur coat, a studded leather matching set, or even a touch of a cropped fur coat or lapels. Following the “fashion is art” dress code, we expected these guys to fly their weird flags – and some of them did (we see you Benito!). But what we didn’t expect was that black, quirky leather took over. like, a lot of Leather.
Bill Skarsgård wore Thom Browne, Patrick Schwarzenegger wore Public School, Romeo Beckham wore Burberry leather lapels and Nicholas Hoult wore head-to-toe Prada leather. constantly. It was an unexpected event, but not necessarily something we were unhappy about. Even some women got in on the act: Hoyeon got in on the action in a Louis Vuitton hem.
