Olivia Rodrigo started her new era with a bang. Today, the musician releases “drop dead,” the first song from her upcoming album, You look so sad for a girl so in love.
Rodrigo and director Petra Collins (one of the singer’s frequent collaborators) shot the accompanying music video at the Palace of Versailles, which features the singer lying in bed, playing on her laptop and walking around the halls, looking like Gen Z meets Marie Antoinette.
Rodrigo, styled by Chloe and Chenelle Delgadillo, wore a gray-blue off-the-shoulder Chloé top, silk beige bloomers and white pointy knee socks. But the image of Rodrigo running around in retro pink over-the-ear headphones and lying in bed staring at his laptop is distinctly reminiscent of Sofia Coppola’s girly, modern and sometimes anachronistic themes. Marie Antoinette. (The behind-the-scenes shot of Kirsten Dunst and Jason Bateman in full rococo garb contemplating a laptop is particularly poignant.)
