“Part of our initial pitch for the show was the final scene,” says Lucia Aniello. hackerThree showrunners, including Jen Statsky and Aniello’s husband Downs (who co-stars as troubled agent Jimmy), told me via Zoom. “We know how the season is going to end, and if we’re lucky enough to be able to imagine it the way we want it to be, how the show is going to end. It’s a full circle, with a lot of mirrors, callbacks and things like that. Hopefully people will find it as satisfying to watch it as it was to write it.”
It’s a joy to meet the show’s myriad supporting characters, like Las Vegas Mayor Joe Pezimanti (Lauren Weidman), Ava’s unhinged but supportive mother Nina (Jane Adams), and Randy (Robbie Hoffman), the preternaturally confident talent assistant who makes her heart beat. hacker It’s still Deborah and Ava, and according to Anillo, Einbinder and Smart are at their best in season five.
“They’re better than ever,” she said. “After playing these characters for five seasons, their performances are so vivid, but they still find ways to surprise and do things that we didn’t expect as Deborah and Ava.”
