Ulaanbaatar ——Democratic caucus chairman O Zotegelel said at a press conference that members of the Democratic caucus will not attend parliamentary meetings until Speaker Nuhlal resigns. He said the decision, which was not aimed at stopping parliament’s work but to press for a change of leadership, came after a series of concerns about alleged corruption and the conduct of the speaker.
However, a system of corruption was established. The former party leader spoke on television about very serious issues. If something like this happened in South Korea, protests would have started long ago. The decision to imprison a journalist is made by a group of politicians. The Minister of Justice reported on corruption. Such a corrupt party leader should not be the President of Parliament.
The group also raised financial concerns, saying the parliamentary budget had grown from about MNT 30 billion to more than MNT 100 billion, and questioned how the funds were managed. He warned that the party would continue to refuse to attend meetings unless the Speaker stepped down, while stressing that the move was to protect the integrity of Parliament rather than paralyze the institution.
MP Temujin pointed out that there is precedent for the realignment of the roles of parties and parliament in previous internal competitions, citing the example of former Speaker Amarbayasgaran’s decision to withdraw while seeking leadership of the party. Temujin said parliamentary practice had allowed for ad hoc arrangements in the past and called for dialogue to resolve the current dispute.
The Democratic Party also pointed to recent court rulings, including the third-instance court ruling on N.Altankhuyag, and said it respected the judicial outcome even if it challenged an earlier panel ruling. O.Tsogtgerel added that the party will continue internal preparations ahead of the planned announcement of its presidential candidate in May 2027.
