As someone who prefers dark nail colors (probably dating back to my obsession with Chanel’s iconic uppers in the ’90s), I’ve been in and out of nail salons for decades without giving the best nude nail polishes the due consideration they deserve. But during a recent visit to Kohler Waters Spa in Lincoln Park, my eyes were opened to the variety of colors that fall under the 2026 “nude” spectrum.

After asking my manicurist to show me the best options in the category for my fair, neutral skin tone, I chose SpaRitual’s “Ritual Not Routine.” Iridescent Galinda Bubble Pink & Some variations of beige This is the color I anticipate going out with, and it goes with the overall state of nude nail polish in 2026.
“Nude nail polish has quietly undergone one of the most meaningful shifts in beauty,” says professional manicurist Elle. “The once narrow beige-pink category has expanded to a subtle spectrum that actually reflects true skin tones. The shift has been toward inclusivity.”
Elle says the category is no longer based on a “one-size-fits-all” nude color palette, but has expanded to consider a “curated collection” of olive, gold, red and neutral tones. “The structure has also evolved,” she noted. “Nude colors are no longer just a cream finish; they’re sheer, opalescent, jelly-like, and even soft pearlescent. This layered effect gives nails dimension.”
