Getting dressed in the summer can be a daunting task. With temperatures soaring and humidity rising, maintaining even the tiniest sartorial tips while staying cool can be challenging to say the least. Of course, summer on the big screen is all about glittering gold, hydrated skin, and relaxed and elegant fashion. That said, it’s an evocative – if idealized – version of the warm-weather future.
Movies have long been an intoxicating landscape in matters of style, especially summer movies, and their dreamlike escapism in plot and costume. certainly, The Talented Mr. Ripley is a great example of summer style cinema: the glamor of the Amalfi Coast contrasted with all the mistaken identities and murders. And then there are please call me by your name—Young, forbidden love blossoms in rumpled resort wear and retro sportswear.
While these are still a beacon for all those who want to bring a cinematic feel to the drudgery of summer dressing, they’re a little, well… on the nose. we are here Fashion Look for some deeper cuts that may be unconventional but still offer plenty of unexpected aesthetic stimulation. A strange and hazy film about students who disappear during a class trip to an Australian girls’ school in 1900, Picnic at Hanging Rock A bit of a Victorian dream. They were dressed in creamy white dresses, the lightness and modesty of which contrasted sharply with the monstrosity that invaded their bodies. A wonderfully strange, mesmerizing film filled with Chloé-style dresses, lace blouses and floor-length skirts. The costume design makes it even more charming.
