When Sea NY launched in New York in 2006, the world was on the cusp of a digital revolution. Two years ago, an unknown Harvard undergraduate launched the new social networking site TheFacebook, the same year that e-commerce platform Net-a-Porter became profitable for the first time. A year later, the first iPhone would be released in the United States. Fast forward seven years, and 4,000 miles away, Parisian brand Sézane was born in the year the word “selfie” entered the dictionary.
Fashion‘s Favorite discovery
But even as the world is consumed by novelty, Sézane and Sea NY remain rooted in design with “a sense of history and intention,” as Sézane founder Morgane Sézalory puts it. It’s this alignment, along with a deep understanding of brand building and customer loyalty, that has allowed these two companies to thrive where so many others have failed, which in turn has made every design collaboration they have had in 2018 and 2023 a success.
The two brands have now joined forces to launch a third new collection, set to launch on January 18, that continues a similar style, fusing Sézane’s feminine silhouettes with Sea NY’s signature patchwork and embroidery, creating a series of retro-inspired prairie-style dresses, quilted jackets with wide lapels and crochet-detailed shirts. While most fashion collaborations these days are about generating as much hype as possible, it’s clear that this partnership is built on fans — and there are plenty of them.
“I think people today are looking for authenticity and quality, and brands that stand for something that goes beyond constant novelty and really listens to their customers,” explains Sézalory. “At Sea and Sézane, we are deeply rooted in craftsmanship and committed to creating pieces to be worn, loved and preserved. We curate our wardrobes with a focus on how each piece will refine over time.”
The collection may have been designed to break away from trend cycles, but it’s worth noting that it launches after 2025 – a year that saw the resurgence of boho and the ongoing obsession with fashion. little house on the prairie– encoding “cottagecore”. What’s behind this impulse to bring pastoral charm to city streets? “I think the return of romanticism has been going on for some time and will continue into 2026 and beyond,” Sézalory said. “People are drawn to softness, femininity and refined handcrafted details, to things that feel more authentic and human. This aesthetic expresses a desire for slowness, connection and a life that’s slightly offline.”
The collection will undoubtedly boost Sézane’s already significant profile in the US – where the brand currently has eight permanent stores – and the campaign itself was shot in New York’s Nolita neighborhood, home to the brand’s first store outside of Paris. At the same time, a more accessible price point will inevitably open up Sea NY’s premium designs to a wider, possibly younger, demographic.
“We were welcomed very warmly by the American community and New York has always been a huge source of inspiration for us,” recalls Sézalory. “Parisian style is often about simplicity, with a strong focus on cut, quality, materials and those small In detail, New York is freer and more expressive, with bolder silhouettes and an instinctive way of dressing. I love how these two energies naturally complement each other. But there’s no single way to define either city, and it’s this openness that makes things interesting. “
