Yangon – Candidates of the Union Solidarity and Development Party (USDP), including Prime Minister U Nyo Saw and Deputy Police Commissioner (retired) U Aung Naing Thu, won in 15 of the 16 townships holding runoff elections in the Yangon region, according to information provided by the parties.
Prime Minister U Nyo Saw, representing the Union Solidarity and Development Party, ran and won in the Koko Kyun Township Pyithu Hluttaw constituency and Deputy Police Chief (Retired) U Aung Naing Thu Region Hluttaw constituency. In Kokojun Township, only the Federal Solidarity and Development Party and the People’s Progressive Party (PPP) are running.
In Yangon Province, 16 townships participated in the second phase of the election. In the People’s House constituency of Kyeemyindaing township, the Union Solidarity and Development Party candidate Daw Ei Ei Hlaing lost to the independent candidate Zaw Tika U Khin Hlaing.
“We won in 15 townships. We lost in Kemin, the People’s House constituency. The regional constituency is still unknown,” said a Yangon Region Alliance Solidarity and Development Party official.
On January 11, 2026, the second phase of elections was held in 100 townships, including Bahan, Panbedan, Latha, Kawhhu, Kungchangon, Dagon Myothit (North), Dawbon, Pazundaung, Hlaing, Shwepyithar, Htan Tabin, Hlegu, South Okkalapa, Koko Kyun, Kyee Myint and Insein townships in Yangon Region.
In the first phase of the election held on December 28, 2025, candidates of the Solidarity and Development Party were elected in 12 townships in Yangon Province.
Although the official results of the 100 townships where the second round of elections were held have not yet been announced, some UPFP officials said on social media that the UPFP had won more than 50 Lok Sabha constituencies.
