Demi Moore’s waist-length raven hair is her signature. Over the years, though, she’s been fearless when it comes to hair transformations: a pixie cut ghost, this U.S. Army Jane Crew cuts, chic bobs, blonde bowl cuts and boyhood hairstyles, as seen in Elisabeth Sparkle substanceMoore’s extra-long hair speaks to swirling themes of femininity, youth and power. In real life, her extra long length is otherworldly.
Moore performed a lob for the first time while serving on the jury at the Cannes Film Festival. Her hair, styled by her go-to hairstylist Dimitris Giannetos, featured soft, wavy curls that swept past her collarbone and were brushed up at the top of her head to add volume and height. That’s about 15 inches shorter than the hip-length mane she showed off on the Esplanade last week.
Giannetos, known for working with everyone from Kim Kardashian to Amal Clooney with his own color switches and stamps, uses Kérastase Chronographe and Elixir Ultime to create healthy dimension and glowy looks. Hairstylists call this look the “De-Marilyn Bob.”
Raoul Alejandre’s makeup stayed true to Moore’s signature glamour, with chiselled cheeks and softly diffused pink blush. Her eyebrows were arched and defined, brown eyeshadow was lightly applied over her eyes, and her lashes were feathered. Styled by Brad Goreski, Moore wore a custom cobalt blue Self-Portrait gown with an oversized bow that wrapped around her hips and fell into the train. They accessorized with a statement Swarovski necklace, drop earrings and matching rings.

Lob season is in full swing: earlier this month, Rosalía debuted a new “clavi cut” designed by London hairstylist Larry King. The perfectly calibrated lob embodies a balance between sophisticated shape and everyday ease, perfect for summer.
This isn’t the first time Moore has used a trick bob/lob, either. At Milan Fashion Week, Moore attended Demna’s first fashion show for Gucci. She wore a chin-length dark bob, parted on the side, with the tail sticking out from the nape of her neck.
“I wanted to give Demi Moore a big transformation in Demna’s debut at Gucci,” Giannetos said at the time. “I wanted to highlight Demi’s beautiful personality through her hair…iconic, fabulous, edgy, but effortless at the same time.” In fact, the look was 22 inches shorter than her signature look, which was so shiny that it looked almost wet.
