Devyn Garcia gets nervous before hitting the Met Gala red carpet for the first time — and let’s be honest, who doesn’t? “Before the fitting, I was just thinking about all these celebrities going to be there and what would happen there,” the model told Fashion Before the 2026 Met Gala. “Besides, I’m still a little tired of the stairs.”
Fortunately, with some help from Michael Kors, Garcia eased her nerves. “He made it sound easy and effortless, rather than some hyped thing in my head,” she said.

It certainly helps that Garcia and Kors have a history that goes way back: The model has appeared in several of the designer’s shows — as has her mother, Jennie Pickens. “My mom was on his show in the ’90s,” she said. “They pulled up the video!” The significance wasn’t lost on Coles, who considered Garcia’s first appearance at the Met “a complete moment.” He added: “It’s a privilege to dress women across generations and continue the evolution of timeless style.”
Inspired by the nude section of the “Art of Costume” exhibition, Coles designed a dress designed to mimic Garcia’s own form. “To accentuate her delicious curves and confident strength, I designed a column embellished with trompe l’oeil viscose jacquard crystals, allowing one to leave the home naked but fully clothed,” Coles said. Or, as Garcia puts it with a laugh: “Everything is pretty much put in my place.”
