They say good things come in threes, but we’re already predicting Doja Cat’s fourth appearance at the 2026 Met Gala will be a welcome exception to that rule. From first attending in 2023 to quickly being promoted to host committee member this year (plus fashion magazine April cover star) has been at the forefront of the couture art spectacle that has dominated the event’s red carpet in recent years.
While many might have shied away from going too bold at their first Met Gala, Doja Cat rocked it. The theme for 2023 is “Karl Lagerfeld: A Line of Beauty,” which naturally prompted many guests to pay tribute to the late designer’s ready-made portraits. However, while many chose the more traditional route with the theme, wearing black, white and lots of tweed, the Doja cat look was a bit… method so to speak. That year, she donned what we call a “Choupette demi,” a look that bore an uncanny resemblance to Lagerfeld’s beloved cat—a fitting reference in name—full-face prosthetics and a custom, sparkling hooded Oscar de la Renta gown complete with sewn-in ears.
Doja Cat’s 2024 look may have felt like a more understated choice by comparison, but she once again solidified her status as the best-dressed Met Gala with her unique approach to the theme “Sleeping Beauty: Reawakening Fashion.” The evening’s sartorial show began at the Mark Hotel (a favorite among attendees, a very glitzy, ready-to-go venue), where she appeared on a mini-red carpet wrapped in terry cloth with Vetement’s designer Guram Gvasalia, the only hint of her Met look being her dripping Pat McGrath eyeshadow. By the time she reached the steps of the Met, she had slipped into a floor-length Vetements wet dress that was reminiscent of cozy pajamas. She deserves double points for her almost contrived, hyper-literal approach two years in a row.
