Margot Robbie is one of the greatest advocates of dressing method. Two years ago, she captured the world’s sartorial hearts and imaginations while promoting Barbie (as well as dressing the character)—as well as her latest project, Emerald Fennell , an adaptation of the classic Wuthering Heightsshe’s giving herself the full, wistful Emily Bronte treatment, including beauty treatments.
“The manicure design was inspired by Elizabeth Taylor’s iconic heart-shaped Taj Mahal necklace, which Margot wore that night,” said Chanel manicurist Betina Goldstein, who was also Robbie’s on-site manicurist Barbie– Travel manicures (which include viral French manicures and jelly shoe-inspired shades). “With marquise diamonds and round rubies all over the necklace, the set feels as if the jewels have fallen off the necklace and are delicately scattered around her nails.”

Of course, this means diamonds and rubies are needed to complete the look. Goldstein used a set of almond-shaped compression shoes and started with a base of Chanel Le Vernis in Ballerina to create a “natural yet refined tone.” From there, Goldstein used a jeweler’s diamond (yes, really!) and went to work. “I approached the application like a fine piece of jewelry, drilling custom-sized inlays on each nail to fit the stone perfectly.” Two cut diamonds (round and marquise) totaling 0.88 carats were used, along with 0.21 carats of rubies, all from XIV Karat, Ltd of Beverly Hills.
“One of the advantages of using real diamonds and gemstones is that they are resistant to acetone,” Goldstein said. “This allows the nails to be soaked and the stone to be reused.”
This is just one of the themed manicures Goldstein has planned for Robbie’s press conference — maybe we’ll see these stones repurposed into cool toe rings or a gorgeous pedicure next?
