Women by Women: A Shared Vision: Black Women Photographers

Is there a particularly successful brand partnership you’d like to share?

Our ongoing partnership with Nikon is particularly impactful and rooted in creating tangible, long-term change. Together we established an annual grant fund that has provided our members with over $200,000 in direct financial grants and over $80,000 in cutting-edge camera equipment. More than just one-time aid, this support provides Black and African female creatives with the resources, tools and confidence they need to create ambitious work, sustain their careers, and access professional opportunities that might otherwise be unavailable.

What upcoming projects are you currently working on?

We are continuing to expand our global programming, including upcoming educational programs, funding opportunities, and virtual and in-person events. We are also working to expand our catalog and strengthen relationships with brands, publications and agencies to increase paid commissions from our affiliates. Additionally, we are developing new resources for Black and African female creatives centered around sustainability, mental health and career longevity.

How can people support black female photographers?

There are many ways to support BWP. People can hire our members, share our directory with industry decision-makers, and collaborate with us on projects, grants, and initiatives. Financial donations and sponsorships directly help us continue to provide free resources, funding and equipment to our members. Most importantly, the support looks like a long-term commitment—an investment in Black creatives that is not just visible in the moment, but ongoing and intentional.

Since everything we do at PhotoVogue is rooted in empowerment and collaboration with organizations that share our values, is there a women-focused initiative or group you’d like to highlight or celebrate?

Absolutely. I would love to highlight the female street photographers founded by Gulnara Samoilova. This is a powerful global platform dedicated to elevating and supporting female street photographers through exhibitions, education and community building. The initiative helps create visibility and opportunities for women in historically male-dominated artistic genres, while promoting cross-border collaboration, mentorship and artistic exchange.
