Tyla may not be in her original millennial days, but she’s more than capable of reviving the trend. While the “Water” singer is best known for her unique South African-inspired voice, she’s also honed a unique fashion sense. In short: She’s never met a cutout, animal print, or thigh-high slit she didn’t like.
The singer’s style can be defined above all by its sensuality, whether wearing a yellow Area dress or a George Trochopoulos jacket made of mussel shells (vest not included). She’s quickly proven herself to be a real clothes hanger who’s willing to take risks, from the Balmain sand sculpture (made from real sand) she wore to the 2024 Met Gala to the mint green crystal mesh Atelier Versace number she wore to her first Grammy Awards, where she won the award for Best African Music Performance.
But she also became a serious player of retro games. At the 2025 Glamor Women of the Year Awards, she flexed her fashion muscles in a figure-hugging pistachio green Dior dress from John Galliano’s tenure. At the 2024 BET Awards, she wore a Versace Fall 2004 dress that checked all her boxes: a floor-length black maxi with a hip-high slit, plunging cutouts and a yellow animal-print train. While Tyla tends to avoid direct references to her playful style, she paid homage to Aaliyah at the MTV EMAs by wearing a blue tiger-striped dress from Roberto Cavalli’s Fall 2000 collection.
In celebration of Tyla’s birthday, take a look back at some of the singer’s best looks to date.
