IHH Healthcare Singapore signs MoU with Medistra to boost liver care

The partnership covers clinical excellence and training.

IHH Healthcare Singapore and Medistra Hospital Jakarta have signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate to improve liver disease services and medical quality in the region.

The agreement focuses on cross-border collaboration in a number of areas, including the development of centers of clinical excellence, joint case discussions, training programmes, knowledge transfer for healthcare professionals and clinical governance.

“Healthcare today is no longer bounded by national borders,” said Thomas Wee, CEO of Gleneagles Hospital Singapore. He said medical tourism has evolved from treating travelers to building a regional ecosystem where hospitals collaborate, knowledge is shared freely and patients receive the best care wherever they are.

The signing took place during a forum titled “Liver Disease in Indonesia: Current Challenges and the Changing Role of Liver Transplantation”, where Dr Ek Khoon Tan, General Surgeon (Hepatopancreatobiliary and Transplantation) at Gleneagles Hospital, Singapore, spoke about the latest advances in liver transplantation for end-stage liver disease.

The event was attended by Medistra Hospital’s management, specialist doctors, IHH Healthcare Singapore representatives and referral partners.
