The Burkes worked together. So said David and Victoria Beckham, who coordinated bags in Paris today.
The couple arrived in the City of Lights yesterday not for one of the numerous haute couture shows taking place in the city, but to attend the ceremony of becoming a Knight of the Order of the Victorian Order of Arts and Letters at the Department of Culture. To accept her title, Victoria wore a long-sleeved black dress of her own design, while David wore a handsome charcoal gray double-breasted suit. Even though they were back in more casual clothes today, they were still united by two Hermès bags.
In the crook of Victoria’s elbow was a shiny burgundy crocodile Birkin bag with palladium hardware (no clasp, of course). The bag’s rich burgundy hue contrasted beautifully with her sky-blue ensemble – a shoulder-padded blazer and wide-leg, floor-length trousers from her own label. In addition to the Birkin bag, she accessorized with other can’t-miss styles: face-covering shield sunglasses and teetering platform heels.
David, for his part, remains true to the giant Hermès Haut à Courroies Birkin bag he was carrying yesterday. In the past, he kept the bag tightly buckled on his body, but today, he took styling inspiration from his wife and carried the bag with the flap wide open.
Apparently, David and Victoria Beckham know that no matter how stylish you are, you can’t take your partner’s fashion advice, especially when they’re a newly knighted designer.
