The Sweet Meaning Behind Rihanna’s Dior Couture Latest Look

Rihanna was the first to wear Dior Haute Couture by Jonathan Anderson on the runway…sort of.

The singer and entrepreneur attended Anderson’s Dior Haute Couture debut in Paris yesterday, wearing a sheer black polka dot dress and double-breasted coat that was reminiscent of one of her most memorable maternity looks. By the time the after-party was over, she was looking fresh off the runway.

But Rih wasn’t wearing one of Anderson’s sculptural gowns or woven capes. Instead, she took a page from Beauty and wore a bouquet of white and magenta cyclamen in her hair. Models wore unique looks in various colors of white, pink and violet, a touching tribute to one of Anderson’s predecessors, John Galliano.

When Anderson first presented his first womenswear collection to Galliano, “John was kind enough to bring the team two bouquets of cyclamen tied with black ribbons, as well as a bag of cakes and sweets from Tesco,” Anderson wrote on Instagram. “These are the most beautiful flowers I have ever seen, so I use that as a starting point so everyone can receive the same bouquet that I received.”

“To me, they’re almost like these big headphones that everyone is wearing now,” says hairstylist Guido Fashion Backstage. “Flowers in the hair have always symbolized romance, but the way they appear on the face is what makes it modern.”

Oh, did Rihanna make it modern? Wearing a sophisticated glamor look, she paired the bouquet with a white T-shirt, cuffed blue jeans and a furry white scarf. She paired it with a pair of satin ballerinas, pink pointed-toe pumps, layered necklaces and sunglasses. She looked out from under her scarf and tied another bouquet of cyclamen in her belt loop.
