By 2025, the country will account for 22% of the Asia-Pacific MRI market.
The magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) market in India is expected to grow at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 12% between 2026 and 2036, according to GlobalData.
Growth is driven by high demand for advanced diagnostics, large population, and limited access to high-end imaging infrastructure.
By 2025, the country will account for 22% of the Asia-Pacific MRI market.
US-based Hyperfine’s Swoop portable MRI system has received regulatory approval from India’s Central Drugs Standard Control Organization (CDSCO) and is expected to be commercially available in early 2026.
Swoop, the first US FDA-approved AI-powered portable MRI designed for brain imaging, will be launched in India through a partnership with medical device distributor Radiosurgery Global (RSG).
Nidhi Bharti, a medical device analyst at GlobalData, said portable MRI systems will change where and when imaging is done.
Newer MRI systems bring imaging closer to the point of care, speeding up clinical decisions, reducing patient transfers and improving care coordination, she said.
The Hyperfine-RSG partnership aims to expand access to advanced neuroimaging across India by deploying mobile MRI systems in hospitals and care centers where traditional MRI is not possible.
“As portable MRI systems become more widely adopted in India, they are expected to reduce missed diagnoses and provide results faster, helping patients complete their treatment more smoothly,” Bhatti said.
