Amid the hubbub of Paris Fashion Week, where crown jewels and runway debuts abounded, David Beckham arrived quietly at La Réserve hotel.
While the former soccer star is no stranger to the Paris fashion scene — his wife, Victoria Beckham, walks in shows there every season — he doesn’t come to Paris just to sit in the front row. Today, Victoria will be awarded the title of Chevalier des Arts et des Lettres, an honor bestowed by the French government in recognition of her contribution to culture and the arts. (Last year, Demna received this prestigious title, which had been awarded to Simon Porte Jacquemus the year before.)

Beckham’s arrival was a sartorial moment in itself, ahead of what is sure to be a fashion-filled ceremony at the Ministry of Culture tonight. Dressed in a Canadian tuxedo, Becks arrived at the hotel wearing a deep-pocket stand-collar indigo button-down jacket from Loro Piana’s Fall 2024 Men’s Collection, which she paired with matching slim-fit jeans.
While the double denim moment was a statement in itself, it was Beckham’s giant suitcase that stole the show. Instead of a traditional suitcase, he opted for a Hermès Haut à Courroies homespun bag with a golden brown leather finish and palladium hardware. (A similar Toile De Camp HAC Birkin 50 sells for $13,000 on The RealReal.) Haut à Courroies, also known as HACs, were first sold in 1892 and were designed to carry equestrian gear.
Which begs the question: What exactly can David Beckham carry in his big bag? Maybe he was planning a quick ride between the Knights of Arts and Letters ceremony and dinner? We assumed he was carrying a spare pair of breeches and a riding helmet, until it turned out otherwise.
