Rihanna is a certified fashion minimalist: Issey-Miyake maternity wear in sherbet hues and billows, a collection of vintage Louis Vuitton bags with charms, giant headpieces, all-leather Givenchy and tiger-print Alaïa. Speaking of winter white? Rihanna discovered that her nails look best, so she tried this minimalist manicure trend this season.
The pop star and Fenty Beauty mogul tapped her go-to manicurist, Kim Truong, to create this more minimalist look in a “creamy” hue. Truong used Aprés Gel Couleur in Gypsophila. “It’s a soft, creamy color with a sheer buttery flavor,” she says. “The cream color feels perfect for Rihanna because it’s clean and effortless without feeling boring. It makes the nails look fresh and elevated, but still very natural. On her, it feels timeless and cool—simple, yet purposeful.”
Truong emphasizes that lighter shades really show everythingso if you want Rih Rih nails, preparation is key, and Then Your color choice. “I pay a lot of attention to cuticle care and nail prep before applying color. I always apply a thin layer and apply slowly so the nails stay even and streak-free. I also prefer sheer creams to pure whites because they look softer and fresher.”

Lately, Truong has been wearing lighter, cleaner shades on her clients, which include Kim Kardashian and Addison Rae. For Pamela Anderson’s Golden Globes appearance, Truong gave her a no-polish, natural manicure, in keeping with Anderson’s contemporary style that focuses on healthy nails and glowing skin, prioritizing good hand care. (Joonbyrd Confetti Sky Hand Treatment delivers a soft, natural-looking glow.) Elsewhere, whimsical lilacs and icy blues are back in fashion on runways and on nail salon chairs.
Rihanna is usually not associated with trends when it comes to her nails, often challenging the current vibe and creating her own manicures: pastel shades for autumn, nostalgic tones loud-era matte black French mani with personalized graphic 3D decals.
