How To Take Advantage of January’s New Moon and The Fresh Energy It Brings

The new year may not be here yet, but Moonsisters co-founder Jetteke van Lexmond already knows the transition between 2025 and 2026 will be a little easier than in past years. “The energy between the two years is more fluid than before,” says Van Lexmond, who has a very popular lunar calendar. “We are indeed entering a new energetic era. You may be feeling it because we have been immersed in this frequency for several weeks.”

Currently, we’re in Capricorn Season – a stressful energy that can create a tug-of-war feeling. “You can choose to experience Capricorn energy in two ways: challenging and scary, because running away, ignoring or going back to the past no longer works. Or liberating and tingling, because movement and inspiration are finally flowing again.”

But many people are also feeling uneasy or impatient at the moment. There is a pulsating energy within the body that can no longer be ignored. “The heart feels and knows things that the mind does not yet understand or cannot understand.”

Capricorn season ends on January 19th, but halfway through, on January 3rd, we have the New Moon in Cancer. what does that mean:

Capricorn Energy Meets Cancer Full Moon

After the rather hard masculine energy of Capricorn (an earth sign that Van Lexmond describes as “associated with ambition, structure, and responsibility”), a Full Moon in Cancer (“a water sign associated with feminine energy, representing emotional security, caring and family,” Van Lexmond says) will come to fruition on January 3, 2026. Don’t stress – it ultimately brings a wave of gentle feminine energy.

Capricorn and Cancer are directly opposite each other in the zodiac, which is exciting news for those of us who need a little relief. This dichotomy can lead to tensions between feeling and thinking, being and doing. All in all, it’s a “cosmic dance” that reminds us that true power lies not just in persevering, but in allowing, nurturing, and slowing down.

“You may feel a conflict between your head and your heart,” adds Van Lexmond. “If you do, try to notice how this full moon allows these opposites to work together. They complement each other perfectly. When the masculine and feminine energies within us are in harmony, true balance occurs.”

Sensitive Cancer teaches pragmatic Capricorn to express their feelings, while responsible Capricorn provides Cancer with stability and security. “This creates a strong and harmonious relationship that combines depth with practical, down-to-earth strength,” added van Lexmond.

Believe that some things just need to be let go

This full moon also brings a reminder: try to let go of the need to control and instead trust the process. This freedom creates space to recognize that “certain structures and patterns have completed their cycles. Not everything needs to be restored and repaired; there are some things that you should gently let go of.”

January’s full moon requires nothing. Rather, it is expressed through feelings, images, and memories. Or as Jetteke van Lexmond summed it up: “The full moon on January 3 reminds us that vulnerability is not weakness, but strength, and that you don’t have to make yourself strong to be steadfast. Sometimes, the bravest thing you can do is come back to yourself.”
