I’ll be returning to Greece around the August holidays, but while I’ll be spending time at home with some familiar favorites (including my best friend’s house in Skiathos), I try to visit a new island every summer. This year, it’s Amorgos, one of the easternmost islands of the Cyclades. Famous for its secluded beaches amid its rocky rugged terrain, the maze-like Chora towering above the Aegean Sea and, as every local guide excitedly points out, it featured in the 1988 film blue sea and sky, The pace here is quieter than its busy neighbors. I will also be returning to Astypalaia as it is on the same ferry route. I first visited this butterfly-shaped island a few summers ago, and it remains one of my favorite places in the world. There’s another beautiful Chora, wild beaches and some of the best meatballs I’ve ever had (at Apanemia, a bistro where your dinner companions are a pack of stray cats). —Elly Leavitt, Lifestyle Shopping Editor
