At Monday’s Met Gala, it started with the carpet — which this year’s star attendees took to the carpet with their best “fashion is art” — and then a tour of the spring Costume Institute exhibition inside the Metropolitan Museum of Art. But before the stars watch “The Art of Costume” or sip cocktails on Monday, a lot of Before Sabrina Carpenter and Stevie Nicks performed at the Temple of Dendur, they had to hand over their phones.
So, what exactly goes on inside the Met Gala? Who is chatting with whom over champagne and chocolate raspberry cream? Who couldn’t sit down in their construction attire, and who didn’t sit down because they were having too much fun in the (designated!) smoking area?
This year, Gracie Abrams FashionIntrepid celebrity reporters documented the scene with (Met-approved) cameras. “There was no denying that our whole table was lovely,” said Abrams, who attended with the Chanel team and wore a custom gown with a gilded mosaic that referenced Klimt’s work. “Everyone was grateful to be included,” Abrams added of her reportage. “Everyone’s interpretation of the subject matter was so beautiful, and everyone who allowed me to photograph them was a gorgeous muse. It always comes with a belated catch-up.”
Scroll through photos of pop stars and you’ll see fierce competition Boys Connor Storrie and Hudson Williams, ear-melting Paloma Elsesser, Vittoria Ceretti’s sparkling back, and playful pout Zoë Kravitz. There are also group photos of Gracie, Maya Hawke and Lena Dunham as well as Jennie and Chanel’s Matthieu Blazy. Hailey Bieber and Charli xcx looked ready for the dance floor, while Sabrina Carpenter got the party started on stage. Elsewhere, the Chanel girls posed over burrata appetizers and martinis.
