Adut Akech’s 2026 Met Gala Look Is a Sweet Homage to Her New Baby

Model Adut Akech is no stranger to Met dance moves, but tonight, she’s hitting the red carpet for the first time at the Met Gala, and there’s a bonus: The model is officially pregnant with her second child. “As soon as I get to Metropolis, this baby can decide to come any time after that,” Akci joked Fashion The Met Gala is less than a week away.

Now, in one of her final fashion shows during her pregnancy, Thom Browne has designed a Met Gala maternity dress just for her. “I’d seen Tom in passing, but we’d never sat down and talked or worked together as closely as this,” she said. “So I’m excited to be in the same space as him.”

Browne designed an organza bodysuit to accommodate Akech’s changing figure, paired with a black silk taffeta coat. The designer also added some sweet personal touches, affixing lily of the valley – May’s birth flower – to the bodice. “I’m really, really excited and I’m so grateful that someone is so considerate,” she said.

Brown is excited to help the model celebrate this exciting time in her life. “I wanted to create something that felt authentic to myself and to Adut, and to work for someone experiencing one of life’s great miracles,” he said. “It was important that the design paid homage to this moment in her life and truly celebrated her strength and beauty. Adut truly understood what I was doing, which made it easier to adapt to that throughout the process.”
