Princess Eugenie is pregnant with her third child, the royal family confirmed in an Instagram post. Eugenie, 36, and her businessman husband Jack Brooksbank are preparing to welcome younger siblings to their two sons, August, five, and Ernest, two, this summer. Eugenie’s uncle King Charles has been informed of the news and is said to be “delighted” with the news.
A photo shared on the royal family’s official Instagram account announcing the news shows the tops of August and Ernest’s heads seen from above, gazing down at the results of an ultrasound scan for their new brother or sister. The boys were “so excited to have another sibling join the family,” the caption said. Eugenie, Jack and their children spend most of their time away from the spotlight, splitting their time between their bases in Portugal and London.
Eugenie’s sister, Princess Beatrice, has two daughters, Sienna and Athena. Last year, she described in a personal essay in the UK Fashion How after learning Athena might be born prematurely, she doubled down on her efforts to emphasize the importance of research to improve women’s health outcomes.
The upcoming arrival comes as welcome news after a difficult year so far for Princess Eugenie and the wider royal family. Her father, Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor, was arrested in February on suspicion of misconduct in public office after Thames Valley Police said it was assessing complaints that the former prince allegedly shared confidential material with the late sex offender Jeffrey Epstein. King Charles’ brother denies any wrongdoing.
