16 Things to Do in NYC If You’re Not Attending the Met Gala

On the stage front, there’s a lot of talk about the revival of the Island Theater Company. The Rocky Horror Show (See it in the pages of this magazine!). Grab a ticket (if you can) and do the time warp again. Or tap your toes with the live experimental dance scene Mother Lama is moving! dance festival (As of May 10).

If you prefer eating popcorn in a dark movie theater, you’re in luck. This month, the city is hosting several film festivals, including lower east side film festival (Ongoing through May 4) Reunites Steve Buscemi, Thora Birch and more of the cast of the cult film ghost world 25th anniversary screening. Elsewhere in the city center, watch a documentary at the IFC Center New York City DOC Select Until May 5, or watch a special series of films about the greatest painters in history (Picasso, Munch, etc.) meter.

In Brooklyn, there are coney island film festival. (While you’re there, why not make it a double-header and grab a Cyclone Game? ). In Queens, the First Look music festival is Museum of the Moving Image The exhibition runs until May 3, but you can still check out their ongoing exhibitions, including a comprehensive look at the life and legacy of Muppets Jim Henson, and “Overexposure: Art, Technology, and the Body.” (Body! They’re trending!)

In other words, there’s a lot to do besides just watch The Devil Wears Prada 2 Or getting ready for the Met Gala. Friends, the world is your oyster. Get out there and take advantage.
