Before Bridget Jones made Renee Zellweger a global star, the Texan had already made her acting debut in several low-budget independent films. She continued these with vignettes in her ’90s classic dazed and confused, reality bitesand empire records, after Jerry Maguire Making her America’s sweetheart.
More successes followed: Me, myself and ErinWith Jim Carrey, who became her partner in the late 1990s; and nurse bettyThe dark comedy earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress in a Musical or Comedy. But Helen Fielding’s adaptation of an ultimately jaded Englishwoman marked a point of no return: it went on to win an Oscar in 2003 cold mountainand her designation to become a Hollywood fixture.
